In 1965 the first Rochester Teacher Aide was hired for Special Education. The Rochester Paraprofessionals is one of the second largest bargaining groups in the Rochester School District. Thirty years ago Rochester Paraprofessionals joined Minnesota School Employee Association (MSEA). Today we are the largest unit with MSEA, 484 Paras. It has taken many years of hard work to achieve and maintain the contract we have today. This has only been possible because we have been a strong and united group. MSEA is made up of each of you, the members. The work of MSEA is done in 100s of schools across Minnesota, not in an office in St. Paul. MSEA staff and elected leaders exist to serve you, the membership. All unions claim to be member run, but MSEA has always tried to make those words mean something. Our members in Rochester decide what to propose during contract negotiations. Our members vote on their contract. Our members select Delegates to attend the Delegate Assembly. Delegates from all over the state elect MSEA officers and approve MSEA dues schedule and budget. Members do Matter! By uniting together we gain strength. MSEA is stronger state wide because its members are united. The Rochester Executive Board will continue its mission to serve, educate, and represent our group.
